When we open the door to deeper communication with the body, frozen or stuck energy will be exposed and this can be overwhelming for the nervous system in some cases. In our teaching, we put emphasis on working with the nervous system by teaching how to regulate the nervous system when we encounter trauma in bodywork.
We will teach about the sympathetic and parasympathetic nervous system and learn how to complete the response of the nervous system that in case of the experience of trauma could not and was not completed.
The effects of trauma can have a devastating effect on our health and well being but they can also be worked through, re-wired, transformed and overcome.
Trauma may begin as acute stress from a perceived life-threat or as the end product of cumulative stress. Both types of stress can seriously impair a person’s ability to function with resilience and ease.
Trauma may result from a wide variety of stressors such as accidents, invasive medical procedures, sexual or physical assault, emotional abuse, neglect, war, natural disasters, loss, birth trauma, or the corrosive stressors of ongoing fear and conflict and it results in a person being “stuck” in the fight, flight or freeze responses.
We integrate a Somatic Experiencing approach in our Californian Massage by looking to discharge excess stress (undischarged sympathetic energy) and help clients move out of states of shutdown or freeze state, allowing them to discover a dynamic equilibrium to their health.
This is approached by gently guiding clients to develop increasing tolerance for difficult bodily sensations and suppressed emotions.
During a Californian Massage session you will learn to recognise signs that the body’s defence responses are activated and learn simple and effective tools to help regulate those responses.
